Becta are trying to push this (see http://uk.sifinfo.org/) as the way ahead for data interoperability but some vendors seem to want to block it perhaps because they've already invested in IMS http://www.imsglobal.org/ or because they have their own data-bashing interoperability that doesn't use an open standard.

Well I think Becta and the DCSF ought to get their act in gear and TELL them it's the way ahead and to get on with agreeing the data model.
